Fastest-finger booking
Everyone tries to select an available time as soon as the sheet opens. Members can make an immediate choice, but when demand is concentrated, fast reactions, connectivity and automation can influence who gets there first. This can suit releases with enough capacity and little opening congestion.
Ask before choosing it
Do members have a useful chance after the first few seconds? How often does the office have to resolve failed attempts or group-booking problems?
A tee-time ballot
Members submit requests before a deadline and the club allocates times afterwards. A ballot can reduce the need to be online at one exact moment. Its suitability depends on how the club handles preferred times, playing partners, unsuccessful entries and cancellations.
Ask before choosing it
Can members express a useful range of preferences? Are allocation and repeat-success rules clear? Who resolves a result that the group cannot use?
A waiting room with booking turns
Members enter before making their selection, then choose from remaining availability when called. BallChute uses this approach, with club-controlled timing, simultaneous booking limits and checks on group membership and existing bookings.
The benefit is separating entry from the scramble to select a slot. The trade-off is waiting for a turn, and members called later may have fewer choices. The process cannot guarantee a preferred time or add capacity.
Ask before choosing it
How long will a release take? How will members know when they can book? What happens if a partner has already booked or a group no longer fits the remaining spaces?
Choose using one release’s evidence
- Count demand and available player spaces separately.
- Record completed bookings, abandoned attempts and office interventions.
- Include members with different levels of digital confidence in the trial.
- Agree the rules for playing groups, missed turns and remaining spaces in advance.
- Review results before changing every release.
Publish a short explanation of the chosen process and a clear route for members who need help. No allocation method removes the need for a club policy when demand exceeds capacity.
